Svenska Galleriförbundet och Kungliga Akademien för de fria konsterna med stöd av Bukowskis bjuder in till ett symposium den 13 november kring konstens betydelse för ekonomisk tillväxt och utveckling. Symposiets huvudtalare är David Throsby, professor i nationalekonomi vid Macquarie University, Sydney, författare till kritikerhyllade Handbook of the Economics of Art and Culture och rådgivare till Världsbanken OECD, FAO och UNESCO med flera.

Humanity on trial in Nobel Laureate Court Case
Planet Earth versus Humanity: Humanity is standing on trial today in a court case arranged at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, with a jury of Nobel Laureates. The verdict will be handed over to the UN High-level Panel on Global Sustainability.

Mikhail Gorbachev joins Nobel Laureate meeting in Stockholm
Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev will be attending the 3rd Nobel Laureate Symposium in Stockholm in May 2011. In his capacity as Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and founder of Green Cross International, conceived during the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, President Gorbachev will contribute to a transdisciplinary discussion on Earth Systems transformation, in preparation for the UN Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development next year.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, awarding the Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry, and the Prize in Economic Sciences, has invited some of the world’s most influential scientists to a unique meeting in October on future energy options.

Experts call for deep-rooted changes to sustainable development thinking and suggest a new UN panel on Ecosystem Sustainability
Today marks the last day of the international conference on sustainable development, Resilience 2008. Hosted in Stockholm, experts from an array of countries and a cross disciplinary field of research have concluded that climate change and the subsequent effects of it are far more serious than current UN predictions. They call for high-level political changes on both national and international level. A new UN panel on Ecosystem Sustainability is suggested along with a new Swedish “Superministry” on sustainable ecological and economic development, directly reporting to the Swedish Prime Minister.
